The Best Marriage Proposal Ideas from Portfolio Customers

In the last three years of selling diamonds, I have discovered that each proposal is as individual as the person and the diamond they choose!  That makes it hard to suggest marriage proposal ideas to suit everyone, but I do my best to share the tips I’ve learnt.

Sometimes I’m the only one that the men share their plans with, so I’m always happy to tell them what other guys have done before.  I want to make sure their girlfriend says “YES!!” too!

Proposing Abroad

Getting down on one knee on a romantic getaway is always a winner when it comes to planning the perfect way to pop the question.  The location is up to you – I’d suggest that you go wherever your lovely lady’s heart desires!

But, if your stuck for ideas, here are some places our previous customers have proposed:

1. During a romantic Christmas trip to New York city.  This charming man had planned every last detail, right down to a pre-arranged picnic in the snow in Central Park for the actual proposal.  
2. While sailing in the Adriatic Sea for the summer – the gent was planning to propose on the deck of the boat at sunset - swoon!!
3. During a weekend trip to Galway.  This proposal was particularly close to my heart because I’m friends with the happy couple, but I still kept my lips zipped until the engagement ring was on her finger!

Whether it’s a far-off foreign climate or a cosy location that’s close to home, choose somewhere that is special to the two of you and you’re sure of success.

Do You Need an Engagement Ring to Propose?

To buy or not to buy?  It’s tough deciding whether to go it alone and try to work out which diamond your girlfriend will love, or just to get her to choose.  We can help you either way – but here are a couple of novel ways to get around the problem:
 
1. Pick a selection before the proposal – then let her choose her favourite.

I had a customer who had been in to look at engagement rings before a trip to Venice. 

Although he didn't buy that day, we had a small selection of the rings he liked ready for her to choose once they got back from the trip.

He proposed to his lucky lady on a gondola and instead of a beautiful diamond ring, he gave her a lucky bag ring!  As soon as they landed in Belfast he whisked her into Queen's Arcade for them to choose the ring together and we spoilt her with champagne and chocolates. 
 
2. Cut out the faffing – just propose at the jewellers!

We once had a couple in the shop who were looking at watches.  When asked if they needed any help the girl said that they were looking for a watch for her boyfriend. 

The young man then totally surprised his girlfriend by saying they were actually in to look at engagement rings - she almost collapsed with the shock!
